It was a new time, a new date, and some new (and some familiar) lineups for the meet. And Carmel’s boys and Noblesville’s girls were feeling good – because they were team champions.

The meet took place Saturday morning at the Chinquapin Ridge course at White River Elementary School in Noblesville, a change from its traditional Tuesday afternoon slot. The Greyhounds boys team sailed to victory by scoring 19 points, monopolizing five of the top seven positions, with the great Kole Mathison leading the way. Meanwhile, the Millers girls placed all of their top seven runners in the top 14, totaling 30 points to easily win that meet.

Mathison was unstoppable as he cruised to a first-place finish. The senior’s time of 15 minutes, 7.1 seconds was 25 seconds ahead of the runner-up, his teammate Anthony Provenzano. Charles Leedke placed fourth, Jack Capes was fifth and Thomas Biltimier was seventh, quickly sealing the team win for Carmel.

Noblesville placed second in the boys meet with a score of 55 points. The Millers had three runners finish in the top 10. Asher Propst took eighth, Ronnie Neal was ninth and Sam Rinker placed 10th.

Hamilton Southeastern was fourth as a team; Ashenafi Caylor led the Royals by taking 11th. Westfield was led by Owen Flynn’s 17th place finish. Guerin Catholic’s Ethan Hines finished in sixth place.

In the girls meet, Noblesville had five top-10 finishers. Nadia Perez placed third, while freshman Ansley Applegate took fifth. Summer Rempe and Paige Hazelrigg were sixth and seventh respectively, followed by Riley Flynn in ninth, closing the Millers’ scoring early.

Carmel scored 69 points to take second place. Greyhounds senior Jasmine Klopstad led the way by finishing fourth, and Carmel landed its top five runners in the top 21 to ensure a strong finish.

Hamilton Southeastern was a close third, totaling 73 points. Junior Maggie Powers placed second individually, with Elizabeth Butler taking 11th.

Westfield was fourth, with two runners reaching the top 10. Sydney Klinglesmith finished in eighth and freshman Gianna Ferreri placed 10th.

Guerin Catholic’s Bridget Gallagher was the individual winner, finishing in a time of 18:20.9.
