The Hamilton Southeastern baseball team split a pair of games Saturday at the Plymouth Tournament.
First, the Royals dropped a 9-1 contest to Penn. Southeastern scored its run in the sixth inning; Cole Earlewine got on base with a double, then was sent home by Eli Miller’s base hit. Brady Strawmeyer struck out five in three innings.
The Royals turned things around in their second game, sailing past Plymouth 9-0. Southeastern got on the board in the fourth inning, putting up six runs.
Clayton Wilke got the first two runs in, hitting a single to score Zach Wagner and Michael Hoog. Minutes later, Cole Earlewine blasted a grand slam home run into center field, also scoring Eli Lantz, Wilke and Maddux Bach.
The Royals added another run in the fifth inning; Evan Burns batted in Ty Bradle with a single. Southeastern completed the scoring with two runs in the sixth: Hunter Wright singled Landon Riekhof home, then Wagner scored Hoog on a left field hit.
Bradle hit a double during the game. Griffen Haas got the pitching win; reliever Colin St. Clair had five strikeouts. Haas, St. Clair and Lantz allowed only one hit in the game.
The Royals are 7-14 and host Westfield Thursday to begin at Hoosier Crossroads Conference series.
