Softball: Carmel cruises past Cathedral

The Carmel softball team cruised to a road victory Wednesday at Cathedral, 9-3.
Lily Sullivan batted in Ella Ohrvall in the first inning to get the Greyhounds on the board. Carmel added another run in the second, when Audrey Hussain doubled in Hope McDonald. Sullivan scored in the fourth inning on Hussain’s RBI groundout.
The ‘Hounds picked up the pace in the later innings, beginning with three runs in the fifth. Sophie Esposito tripled in Jessica Remm, then was sent home by Ohrvall’s double. Ohrvall then scored on a passed ball. Carmel put up two more runs in the seventh inning, as Hussain got home on Esposito’s RBI groundout, then Paxton Law scored when Ohrvall reached on error.
The Greyhounds completed their scoring with a run in the ninth inning; Maddie Stacy singled in Law. Stacy also pitched the complete game win.
Carmel is 10-6 and plays at Class 4A No. 3 Mooresville this evening.

Hamilton Southeastern dropped a tough Hoosier Crossroads Conference game to 4A No. 15 Brownsburg, 6-5 at home on Wednesday.
The Royals scored three runs in the third inning. Lani Wyrick got the first run when Payton Fox drew a bases-loaded walk, then Morgan Hicks smacked a two-run single to send Jenna Chase and Taylor Larson home.
Southeastern added two more runs in the sixth inning. Laila Wanza singled in Fox, then Emma Vance drew another bases-loaded walk to score Madi Yankauskas. That gave the Royals a 5-1 lead, but the Bulldogs scored five runs in the top of the seventh to get the win.
Southeastern is 7-10 and plays Monday at Anderson.

Avery Parker had the Shamrocks’ lone hit.
Westfield is 13-5 and plays this evening at 3A No. 2 Tri-West.
