Jerry Russell Wright, 67, Vilas, N.C., formerly of Sheridan, passed away at his home on Friday afternoon, April 29, 2022. Born January 22, 1955, in Frankfort, Ind., he was the son of the late Ira Russell and Mary Alice (Vair) Wright.
Jerry was a graduate of Sheridan High School and worked for the Wallace Grain Company in Sheridan for many years.
Many people might call Jerry a homebody. He never tired of watching baseball games and NASCAR races from the comfort of home, and he loved gardening with his wife, but when it came to spending time with his granddaughter, Jerry couldn’t clear his schedule fast enough. Family was central to his life. He loved being able to spend time with his family and do so in the place where he was the happiest – his home.
Jerry is survived by his son, Matthew Wright (Gwendolyn Zugarek) of Vilas, N.C.; daughter, Tracy Rayle (Jacen) of Arcadia, Ind.; granddaughter, Alice Jean Wright of North Carolina; brother, Ed Wright (Beth) of Wisconsin; and his aunt, Phyllis Kouns of Zionsville, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve Wright; and by his loving wife, Donna Jean (Moore) Wright on August 17, 2015.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastor V.J. Stover will be officiating.
The family is requesting that masks be worn while in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to either the American Cancer Society, or to Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Ave. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
