‘Rocks cruise past Lebanon

The Westfield baseball team returned from Spring Break on Friday to get a big win at Grand Park.
The Class 4A No. 2 Shamrocks beat 3A No. 6 Lebanon 14-4 in five innings. Westfield was in control from the beginning, scoring five runs in the first inning. Keaton Mahan hit a triple, then eventually scored on a wild pitch. Seconds later, Mac Clarke doubled in Luke Starr and Maximus Webster, then was doubled home himself by Trey Dorton. Evan Russ then got home on a passed ball.
The ‘Rocks cruised through the fourth inning, adding four more runs, all on RBI singles. Collin Lindsey’s right field hit sent Brayden Hibler home, then Webster singled in Starr. Russ’ left field hit scored Webster, and Tyler Gentry batted Russ in.
Westfield repeated itself in the third inning, scoring another four runs. Webster’s triple got Hibler and Mahan home, then Clarke doubled in Webster. Clarke was later sent home by Cole Ballard’s sacrifice fly.
The Tigers scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the third inning, but the ‘Rocks got one back in the fourth when Hibler scored on a wild pitch. Four different Shamrocks (Mahan, Webster, Clarke and Russ) all had two hits.
“Really tough conditions tonight on top of not having played in a week,” said Westfield coach Ryan Bunnell. “We certainly weren’t as clean as we would expect on the mound and defensively, but I thought we had pretty good at-bats tonight. Bright spots for us tonight were Jacob Culp on the mound and Keaton Mahan, Maximus Webster, and Mac Clarke.”
Four Shamrocks pitchers combined for a no-hitter. Starter Gage Stanifer got the win, tossing five strikeouts.
Westfield is still unbeaten at 5-0 and hosts Cathedral on Wednesday.
