Mabel Emma Dahlke

May 16, 1929 – January 1, 2022

Mabel Emma Dahlke, Noblesville, passed away on January 1, 2022. She was born on May 16, 1929, as the 13th child in the family, to Ray and Carrie (Keller) Clements in Cicero.

Mabel was an excellent cook and baker. She hosted annual Clements’ family dinners at her home for over 18 years and everyone enjoyed her yeast rolls, brownies, and chocolate truffles. She retired after 20 years working in retail as a department manager for L. S. Ayers and Company. Mabel was a talented needlewoman and won Indiana State Fair prizes for her work, which often included roses and animals as well as petit point. She made handstitched quilts for her children and grandchildren with an amazing 20+ stitches per inch. She grew gardens every year, smaller as she grew older, but there were always beautiful clematis and flowers in addition to vegetables. She appreciated the family dogs, but she loved cats best.

She is survived by her son, William Cris Dahlke (Stephanie); daughter, Deborah Vollmer Dahlke, DrPH (Michael Vollmer); son, Charles Dahlke; grandchildren, Amelia and Matthew; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Sherwood Braddock “Bill” Dahlke; and 12 siblings.

Entombment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis with plans for a celebration of life in May 2022.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society for Hamilton County, 10501 Hague Road, Fishers, IN 46038.
