Solid defense leads ‘Rocks to victory

An outstanding performance from Alyssa Crockett and solid team defense gave Westfield a nice win at Mount Vernon Thursday.
The Shamrocks beat the Marauders 53-37. Westfield led 12-4 after the first quarter, with Crockett and Olivia Robey both making a 3-pointer. The ‘Rocks held a 25-18 advantage at halftime; Hailey Remaks helped out the defense with two blocked shots.
Westfield pulled away in the third period, outscoring Mount Vernon 16-8 to take a 41-26 lead. Remaks hit a 3-pointer during the quarter. The Shamrocks cruised through the fourth period, adding on another 12 points.
Crockett finished the game with 31 points, including an amazing 18 of 18 performance from the free-throw line. Crockett also had six steals, four rebounds and two blocks.
As a team, Westfield totaled nine blocked shots. Robey made four blocks and Remaks had three. Remaks also had five steals, with Robey and Chesney Tebbe both getting four steals.
The Shamrocks are 6-2, having won three straight games. Westfield returns home Saturday afternoon to host Rushville.
