The Indianapolis Quilt Guild is proud to announce their biennial quilt show, “Quilt–Eat–Sleep–Repeat” will be held on Oct. 20 and 21, 2017.
The show is at the Westfield Middle School, 345 W. Hoover St., Westfield. Show hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission is $10 for adults but free for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult.
Quilt Show Co-Chairs Maureen Weflen and Melissa Snyder shared that, “This year’s expanded show includes many new features. In addition to over 350 member quilts on display, we invited the Indianapolis Modern Quilt guild and the Quilts of Valor State Coordinator to display their quilts and share information about their organizations. We are the only Midwest location to exhibit the entire collection of 179 art quilts in the “Fly Me To The Moon” exhibit. And we couldn’t be more honored that NASA astronaut Dr. David Wolf will be with us Friday afternoon to share his experiences in space!”
Dr. Wolf will be at the show from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20. He will make two short presentations at 2:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. He will be accessible to visitors to answer questions and share what it is like to be “out of this world.” Dr. Wolf’s visit is made possible by the following generous sponsors: Community Health Network, Merrill Lynch McCaw Schenck Group, Riverwalk Village, IUPUI School of Science, Indiana Spine Group, Lutheran Child and Family Services Foundation, Anita A. Harden Law Office, Quilts Plus, Select Sewing, Midwest Balloon Rides, Cathy Franks Machine Quilting and Design, Polina Salon and Spa and Quilt Quarters.
“It is an honor to convey the magical world of spaceflight to such a passionate group as The Quilters Guild,” noted Astronaut David Wolf. “These are the rare people who use their skill, their hands, and their vision to create one of a kind masterpieces. Every stitch is placed with heart and soul that the “Space Program” would envy and with that similar passion which drives humans to explore Space, proving we have no limits. The building of spacecraft themselves is heavily dependent on the very art of “quilting.” Such precision is crucial to the thermal blankets that protect us from the fiery atmospheric reentry back to Earth. At the Quilter’s Guild we will enjoy wonderful works that can only derive from such passionate and inspired artists – and in Indiana – my favorite place and hometown, on our Spacecraft we call Earth.”
The show also includes a silent Auction on Friday and a live auction of small quilts at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Dr. Wolf has generously offered a unique fabric item for this auction that spent time in space. There is a Bed Turning of Antique Quilts, 22 vendors, vendor demonstrations of the latest quilting tools and techniques, the Peony Shoppe has new and resale quilting/craft items for sale at bargain prices and a Food Court. Complete show information can be found on the guild’s website, quiltguildindy.net.
