The Humane Society for Hamilton County moved into a state-of-the-art facility in April of 2021, which qualified for over $24,000 energy efficiency rebates from Duke Energy Incentive Programs.
In addition to facilitating the adoption of many animals, this facility is one of only a few Humane Societies in the country that has its own animal surgery suite on site. The installed heating, ventilating and air conditioning system is unique because of the large quantity of outside air which provides a healthy environment for the animals.
Through a unique partnership, the project used both the Duke Energy Mid-Stream HVAC program and its prescriptive lighting program to capture rebates for the high efficiency lighting and occupancy sensors in order to secure the combined total rebates. By all current measurements, the current 40,000 square-foot facility uses 42 percent of the energy used per square foot compared to the previous Noblesville location – all while achieving much better comfort for employees and volunteers, healthier indoor air quality for the animals, and a virus mitigation scheme by exacting space pressurization controls.
“Programs like this not only help our customers manage their costs, but they also help us reduce the demand for energy on our system and the need for new power generation,” said Duke Energy Community Relations Manager Mark LaBarr. “Our programs have helped customers save more than 2 billion kilowatt-hours over the last decade.”
