Carmel girls soccer reaches sectional final, plays Zionsville tonight

The Carmel girls soccer team reached the championship game of its own sectional on Friday night.
The Class 3A No. 4 Greyhounds beat No. 6 North Central 1-0 in the second of two semi-final games. Carmel scored its goal in the second half; Sophie Shepherd found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. Lauren Bailey made the assist. Bethany Ducat and Aubree Empie combined for the defensive shutout.
The Greyhounds improved to 14-2-2 with the win. Carmel will play No. 10 Zionsville at 7 p.m. tonight for the Sectional 10 title. The Eagles beat Westfield 1-0 in the first semi-final; the Shamrocks finished their season with a 8-5-5 record.
