Baseball fans who are looking for Sunday games need look no further than today at Forest Park, the home of Noblesville Babe Ruth Baseball.
NBR is hosting the Hamilton County Classic this weekend. The tournament was to begin on Friday, but got pushed back to Saturday due to rain. As a result, Saturday was busy with games on both Logan Field and Emmerson Field.
While the rain disrupted the schedule, the field conditions were fine by Saturday.
“We actually just re-did the fields at the beginning of the season, the Babe Ruth season,” said Scott Springer, NBR Secretary of the Board. “The material, it actually takes the water and just pulls it away.”
Springer said the material won’t pool the water like regular dirt or dust will.
“It’s a really high-quality material and we’re getting ready to do the back field,” said Springer. “We’re shutting it down in August and doing the same thing that we did to this field back there as well.”
Eight teams are playing in the Classic, and each team features players ages 16 to 18. NBR has a team, and there are a handful of other local teams as well, such as the Savages, which features players from across Central Indiana. In addition, there are two teams from Illinois playing, and a team from Kentucky, the Wolves.
Teams competed in pool play throughout Saturday, which will lead to the elimination round today. Springer said that play will begin today with games at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The semi-final games will start at around 1 p.m., with the championship game beginning at around 4 p.m.
Admission is $5 and is good for the entire day.
