Meyer Najem brings awareness to Construction Safety Week

Meyer Najem Construction is marking the 2021 Construction Safety Week (May 3-7) by bringing awareness to both the physical and mental aspects of safety on the jobsite.

More than 65 construction firms across the U.S. and Canada have joined forces for the annual Safety Week, a construction industry-wide education and awareness event. This year’s theme is “Holistic Safety – Be Present. Be Focused. Be Safe.”

Meyer Najem has found success in integrating safety as part of its culture. Not only is Meyer Najem using traditional strategies to keep safety at the forefront – like OSHA training and requirements for safety plans and programs, but it’s proactively tackling safety through technology, holding daily safety meetings, and addressing the mental aspect of construction.

“Construction is both physically and mentally demanding,” said Chris McCracken, Chief Operating Officer. “We believe as a leader in the industry, we have a responsibility to acknowledge the challenges our workers face and create an environment where safety is a priority.”

Construction was deemed an ‘essential business’ during the COVID-19 pandemic. Meyer Najem feels that this past year has shown that the construction industry can overcome and adapt to any safety concern.

“During COVID-19, workers were coming to jobs with higher levels of anxiety and uncertainty,” McCracken said. “We immediately addressed this, and provided the resources they needed to not only be physically safe, but mentally safe as well.”

Construction Safety Week is a call to action, and an opportunity to show each other what it means to be safe.
