The Westfield Education Foundation (WEF) has received a $10,000 donation from Meijer to support the needs of all nine Westfield Washington Schools. The donation was awarded in advance of the opening of the new Meijer location at 225 W. Spring Mill Pointe Drive, which officially opens on Thursday, May 13.

“Westfield Washington Schools is excited to have a community partner like Meijer coming to Westfield,” said Brian Tomamichel, chief financial officer of Westfield Washington Schools. “We appreciate Meijer’s generous support of the Westfield Washington Schools Education Foundation and look forward to continuing to partner in the years to come.”

The money will be used for staff in the Westfield Washington School District. WEF will open a grant application process on June 9. All staff will have the opportunity to apply for funds through the education foundation. Grants are available to provide resources to staff and students to enrich and enhance teaching and learning.

“We do our best to support the communities where our customers and team members work and live is very important to us,” said Meijer Store Director Chad Clark. “Being able to help local teachers before opening our doors was a great opportunity to demonstrate how we strive to be a good neighbor.”

To date, WEF has awarded $1.3 million to Westfield students and staff through our grant and scholarship programs. Duane Lutz, WEF board member, said, “The ability to provide support for curriculum, programs and future education is possible due to community partnerships and generous donations such as this.”
