The Carmel boys track and field team won a dual meet at Hamilton Southeastern on Tuesday, 86-50.
The Greyhounds’ Zach Cox continued his early domination of the hurdle events, winning the 110 hurdles easily in a time of 15.10 seconds. Cox won the 300 hurdles in 38.69 seconds.
Other Carmel winners were Owen Schafer in the 400 dash (49.63), Owen Urtel in the 800 run (2:07.07), Nolan Ring in the discus (143-4) and all three relays. The Greyhounds took the 4×800 in 9:22.65, the 4×100 in 42.63 seconds and the 4×400 in 3:23.01.
The Royals were led by Gage Pratt, who was first in the 100 dash (11.07) and 200 dash (22.21). Lamine Sall won the long jump in a state-standard leap of 22-5. Also placing first were Brandon Gonzalez in the shot put (47-11), Xan Cluff in the pole vault (13-9), Nolan Satterfield in the 1600 run (4:24.19) and Garrett Hicks in the 3200 run (9:58.30).

Over at Carmel Stadium, the Greyhounds and HSE girls track teams also competed in a dual meet. Carmel won the close contest 68-64.
Both teams got first place in eight events. The ‘Hounds got a sweep in the throwing events from Caroline West, as she took first in both the shot put and the discus, with a throw of 95 feet, 9 inches in the latter event.
Carmel finished 1-2-3 in the 3200 run, with Annie Christie leading the way in 10:46.15. Other winners were D’ahni Branch in the 100 dash, Reagan VanDermark in the 300 hurdles, Ashton Rohrbacher in the high jump, Tristan Barr in the pole vault and the 4×100 relay.
“We were pretty happy,” said Greyhounds coach Aaron McRill. “It’s still very early in the season, even though it does feel a little later.”
The coach said his team is “trying new things and putting kids in different places to see how they fit and see what we have at the end of the year.”
Halle Hill picked up two wins for the Royals, starting with a close victory in the 1600 run. She then led a 1-2-3 sweep for Southeastern in the 800 run.
“Lots of good performances in those distance areas,” said Royals coach Julie Alano. “Still work to do, but to win the 4×8, the mile and then sweep the 800 against Carmel, that’s not normal.”
Other individual winners for HSE were Carolina Pierce in the 100 hurdles, Regan Wans in the 400 dash, Jocelyn Davis in the 200 dash and Jehnea Mirro in the long jump. The Royals also won the 4×800 and 4×400 relays.
“We’re really young in the sprints, but we made some progress today,” said Alano. “And hurdles went pretty well. Again, pretty young there. We have a lot of young athletes. And then the 400 and the 4×4 obviously went well.”
