Golden Eagles pull away from Tigers, into Sectional 27 final

Guerin Catholic pulled away from Class 3A Sectional 27 host Lebanon in the fourth quarter, and that sent the No. 7-ranked Golden Eagles to a 49-30 semi-final victory on Friday, advancing Guerin to tonight’s championship at Rosenstihl Gymnasium.
The Friday game was close, although the Golden Eagles outscored the Tigers in each of the four quarters. Guerin Catholic led 10-7 after the first period and 20-15 at halftime. The Golden Eagles held a 32-25 advantage after three quarters, then clamped down on defense in the fourth, outscoring Lebanon 17-5 in the closing period.
Kaleb Edwards led the way for GC, scoring 13 points and collecting nine rebounds. Matthew Gillis added 11 points and pulled five rebounds.
The Golden Eagles are 18-3 and will play Brebeuf Jesuit at 7 p.m. tonight for the sectional title. The Braves beat Bishop Chatard 52-36 in Friday’s first semi-final game.
