When Tuesday rolls around, the IHSAA will begin quite possibly the most highly-anticipated boys basketball sectionals in a long time.
Why? Because there were people who were worried the season might not get to finish. But the sectionals are here, including five that involve Hamilton County teams.
Carmel is hosting Class 4A Sectional 8, which starts with two games on Tuesday. The first is a re-match between Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern, which tips off at 6 p.m. The Royals won the regular-season contest back on Dec. 19, shrugging off an early deficit to eventually win 65-51. The Tigers are 14-6 and Southeastern is 11-10.
The second game will tip off at 8:30 p.m., as the Eric Clark Activity Center will be cleared in between games. Westfield will take on Zionsville in that contest. The two teams played back on Dec. 4 – the Shamrocks’ season opener – with Westfield winning 47-38. The ‘Rocks are 16-4 while the Eagles are 14-7.
Tickets are still available for both games as of Sunday morning, with a capacity of 1,000 for each game. Click on this link for Fishers-HSE tickets, and this link for Westfield-Zionsville tickets.
In other Tuesday games…
Hamilton Heights plays Yorktown in the first round of Class 3A Sectional 24 at New Castle, with tipoff at 6 p.m. The Huskies are 15-4 and have won their last four games, while the Tigers are 14-7. The two teams did not play in the regular season.
Sheridan will make another trip to Blackford for Class 2A Sectional 39 play. The Blackhawks take on Eastbrook in the 6 p.m. game. Sheridan is 11-10, while the Panthers are 5-15.
University will take on the Class 2A Sectional 42 host, Heritage Christian, at 6 p.m. in the first game at that sectional site. The two teams were to play each other earlier in the month, but that game was canceled. The Trailblazers are 14-6 and the Eagles are 10-8.
