July 8, 1924 – January 26, 2021
Charles E. Merriman, 96, Sheridan, went home to the lord on January 26, 2021. Charles was born on July 8, 1924 to Carl and Ruth (Allen) Merriman in Mooresville, Ind. He graduated from Westfield High School, member of the Class of 1942.
Charles immediately enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during World War II. He was assigned to work as a medic on the St. Mary Hospital Ship. After the war, Charles returned home and used the GI Bill and enrolled into Butler University. He graduated in 1949 with a degree in Botany. Charles married the love of his life, Roeberta May (King) Merriman, on January 28, 1949. The two of them were at each other’s side for over 70 years.
Charles and Roeberta helped start Faith Community Church in Noblesville; he was a founding father. Charles’ strong faith led him to serve at the Hamilton County Jail. He would read the Bible and share his love in the Lord with the inmates. He would also be found counseling the younger inmates encouraging them to change their lives for the better. He would pray with them and for them. He was also a member of Gideon and would pass out Bibles.
Charles and Roeberta’s strong faith and values were shared with their three children, Debbie Merriman, Sheridan, Robert Merriman, Greenfield, and Jeff (Debbie) Merriman, Sheridan. Charles was a loving grandfather to Ryan (Sami) Merriman, Emily (Stephanos) Theodorou, Elizabeth Merriman, Thomas Merriman, Amber Merriman, and Whitney (Ellis) Ritchie. He was a proud great-grandfather to Lilly, Charlie, Isabe, Elena, Lyla, Malik, Linkoln, and Willa. Preceding Charles in death is his brother, Norman Merriman.
Charles did many things over the years. He drove a truck and owned and operated Merriman Feed and Seed company in Sheridan, and he proudly farmed for many years.
Services for Charles will be private. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
Donations may be made in memory of Charles to Faith Community Church, 19201 Promise Road, Noblesville, IN 46060.
