Sheridan fought its way back from a 10-point halftime deficit to send its Friday game at Cowan to overtime, but fell just short in the extra period, losing 63-60.
Cowan dominated the first quarter, leading 18-5 at the end of the period. Sheridan came storming back in the second quarter, pouring in 20 points, but still trailed 35-25 at halftime. Silas DeVaney had 11 points for the Blackhawks during the second.
It was Corbin Murray’s turn in the third quarter, as he added 10 points and helped Sheridan get within 47-42 by the end of three. The ‘Hawks had pulled all the way back by the regulation buzzer at 58-58, with Ethan Moistner scoring six in the fourth quarter. But Cowan only allowed Sheridan two points in the extra period.
“It was a great effort to get back in the game, but when you practice bad the whole week, the start was expected, and I forewarned them the whole week in practice how bad we practiced,” said Sheridan coach Tod Windlan. “The game just comes down to, you got to hit free throws to close the game out and we got to hit layups. We didn’t do it.”
DeVaney had 19 points for Sheridan and made eight steals (the Blackhawks had 20 steals as a team). Moistner added 17 points and collected eight rebounds, while Murray had 13 points, five rebounds and four steals. Moistner and Cayden Hunter both made two 3-pointers.
Sheridan is 5-3 and plays at Hamilton Heights tonight.
