Basketball roundup: Career high for Hinds in UHS girls win

Senior Sierra Hinds scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Class 2A No. 3 University girls to an 80-13 win PAAC North win at Muncie Burris Friday night.
Sophomore Payton Seay also had a career-high with 21 points and pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore Kelsey DuBois had another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Jordan Patterson also had 10 points.
University held the Owls scoreless for more than 19 minutes across the second, third and fourth quarters, scoring 53 consecutive points over that span.
Hinds made 5-of-7 3-point shots in the game, scoring 12 points in each of the second and third quarters.
University had 55 rebounds including 25 offensive rebounds. Abby Hannon and Arrion Sherrod each had seven rebounds.
The Trailblazers forced 30 turnovers and had 22 steals. Patterson, Seay and DuBois had five steals each.
Kamryn Washington had a team-high nine assists.
Emily Adamowicz led Burris with seven points. The Owls fall to 4-7.
The Trailblazers PAAC North game with Liberty Christian on Saturday has been postponed to a future date. The University boys are still scheduled to play Liberty Christian – game time for the boys game has been moved up to 6 p.m.
The University girls will next be in action on Thursday night when they host Indianapolis Tindley in the first of two games next week. University has added a game at Sectional host Cascade on Saturday, Dec. 19.

Flashes beat GC boys on buzzer-beater

Guerin Catholic lost its first game of the season in a hard-fought game at Franklin Central Friday night, falling 54-52.
The Flashes led 13-12 after the first quarter, then jumped ahead 29-19 by halftime. The Golden Eagles cut into FC’s lead slightly during the third period, getting within 38-30 by the end of the period.
Franklin Central then led 41-30 at the start of the fourth. Guerin Catholic made a big comeback during that period, but the Flashes would win the game on a buzzer-beater.
Joseph Bobilya had another outstanding night, scoring 21 points and making four 3-pointers. Kaleb Edwards added 12 points and led the rebounds with seven. Matthew Etchison and Jack Parenteay both had four rebounds.
The Golden Eagles are 3-1 and host Pendleton Heights on Tuesday.

Royals boys fall to NC

Hamilton Southeastern dropped a 71-63 home game to North Central on Friday.
The Panthers led 16-11 after the first quarter. The Royals cut that advantage to 27-25 by halftime, but North Central made a third-quarter run and led 45-38 by the end of the period. The Panthers held on to their lead in the fourth, edging out Southeastern 26-25 in a high-scoring quarter.
Three Royals players reached double figures. Vinny Buccilla scored 14 points and earned a double-double by dishing out 10 assists. Dalton Retzner added 12 points and also had six rebounds and two blocked shots. John McCall scored 10 points and collected eight rebounds.
Southeastern is 2-2 and plays at Fishers next Friday in the Mudsock game.

Big fourth quarter sends Eagles past Shamrocks girls

Westfield was stunned by a huge fourth quarter from Zionsville on Friday, as the Eagles beat the Shamrocks 61-47 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at The Rock.
Zionsville led 11-10 after the first quarter, but Westfield used a solid defensive performance in the second period to take a 25-18 lead by halftime. The ‘Rocks remained in front after three quarters by the score of 36-31, but the Eagles dominated the fourth period, scoring 30 points.
Three Westfield players finished in double figures. Chesney Tebbe scored 15 points and also led the rebounds with six. Alyssa Crockett added 13 points and made four steals. Hailey Remaks threw in three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points and also dished out five assists. Olivia Robey had five rebounds and four assists.
Westfield is 3-3 and hosts McCutcheon this afternoon.
