On Thursday, the Carmel Fire Department held a memorial service to mark the 60-year anniversary of the death of Assistant Chief Cyrus “Skip” Clark, who was killed in a traffic accident while responding to a fire on Dec. 3, 1960.
Reports indicate Clark was driving a fire truck when a car pulled in front of him in the area of 111th Street and Westfield Boulevard, causing the fire truck to hit a tree, thus killing Clark.
Clark was 27 years old at the time of his death and left behind a wife and four children.
I remember this incident back in 1960 as a 7th grader who had his brother, Eric Clark, as a teacher. It was a sad time in Carmel.
