The Hamilton Southeastern boys tennis team dropped its regional semi-final to host North Central 3-2 Tuesday at the Barbara Wynne Tennis Center.
The No. 10 Royals got the first win of the meet, as their No. 1 doubles team of junior Andrew Spirrison and sophomore Paul Schneider quickly picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory. But the No. 3 Panthers soon got the three points it needed, taking the Nos. 1 and 3 singles and No. 2 doubles matches.
“Definitely mixed emotions right now,” said Royals coach Kirk Webber. “I thought we were going to come out and win this match, because I knew we had the team to do it, the talent to do that. So, it’s obviously disappointing to come away with a loss. Although we knew North Central was going to be tough, man.”
Rohan Golla got Southeastern’s second point, as he toughed out a three-set win at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
“It was great to see Rohan get a win there at the end, battle in three sets,” said Webber. “That’s a great win for him. And our 1 doubles team is still alive, obviously. That’s promising. That’s encouraging. Glad to see them move on. They’ve had a great season, so hopefully they can keep it rolling.”
Spirrison and Schneider will move to the individual tournament, playing sometime this week for the sectional title at North Central.
Noblesville’s Noah Bushong advanced in the individual singles tournament at North Central, defeating New Palestine’s Ezra Schwier 6-0, 6-0. Bushong will take on Eastern Hancock’s Kodey Huff for the sectional title at 4:30 p.m. today.
‘HOUNDS WIN AT KOKOMO
Carmel advanced to the championship at the Kokomo regional with a 5-0 win over Twin Lakes in the Tuesday semi-finals.
The No. 1-ranked Greyhounds will play No. 18 West Lafayette for the regional title at 4:30 p.m. today.
In individual tournament action, Guerin Catholic’s Cole Metzger won the sectional championship at Kokomo, beating Logansport’s Noah Lange 6-0, 6-1.
The Westfield doubles team of Brett Barnes and Christian Emigh also advanced, beating Western’s Connor Beeler and Mitchell Dean on Tuesday.
