Mudsock contests are never short on drama, and Tuesday’s boys soccer game between Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern at Reynolds Tigers Stadium was true to form.
The Class 3A No. 5 Royals came back from a halftime deficit to win the game 2-1. Southeastern scored the winning goal with around four and a half minutes to go. Harsahil Gandham sent a cross to Jack Hyatt, who put the ball in the back of the net.
“I thought it was good when I was taking the shot, then knew it was good seeing it get by his arm,” said Hyatt.
Fishers, ranked No. 13 in 3A, went up 1-0 in the first half, with Moneeb Sayed scoring the goal. The Royals tied it up halfway through the second half when Chase Count delivered a cross to Isa Sayeed, who volleyed the ball into the net.
“It was a great game,” said HSE coach Chris White. “I thought we came out and did some things early, controlled the play, but never really got dangerous. And then they did a real nice job adjusting after about 10, 15 minutes and I thought they controlled the rest of the first half, got a good goal.”
After making adjustments, the Royals came out in the second half and got what they needed.
“Games like this, part of it’s momentum and part of it’s just creating an opportunity,” said White. “So, we got a great service and a great finish to make it 1-1.”
White said he felt that goal shifted the momentum, and his team kept attacking and finally got the second goal.
Southeastern improved to 4-0 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference after this win, and 8-0-1 overall.
Fishers coach Phil Schmidt said his team “played their hearts out” in the game. The Tigers are 4-4-1 overall and 1-4 in HCC play.
Noblesville and Westfield provided another all-county and HCC boys soccer battle Tuesday at the Shamrocks’ field, with the 3A No. 2 Millers winning 6-3.
Westfield, ranked No. 19 in 3A, was playing on its Senior Night, and got the first goal of the game, courtesy of Ellis Douthit. Noblesville scored the next two: Spencer Holland got the equalizer off an assist by Garrett Poynter, then minutes later, Holland sent the ball to Drew Barnes, who got the go-ahead goal.
Ben Wallace made a penalty kick for the ‘Rocks to tie the game at 2-2. Minutes later, Holland sent a pass to Palmer Ault for a goal. Then just before halftime, Cole Bramblett scored off a redirected shot by Barnes to make the halftime score 4-2.
All of the game’s second-half goals were scored in the last 10 minutes. Ault got Noblesville’s fifth goal, then Douthit scored off a free kick. The Millers’ Kyle Goad scored off a header with under two minutes to go, with Poynter making the assist.
Noblesville is now 3-0 in the conference and 6-0 overall. Westfield is 1-2 in both HCC play and overall.
On Saturday, the Shamrocks dropped a conference game to Franklin Central 3-2. Bryce Dolenc and David Green scored one goal each, with Declan Wheeler and Drew Scanlon both making assists.
The Guerin Catholic boys soccer team, ranked No. 4 in 2A, cruised past Roncalli 6-2 in a Circle City Conference game that took place Tuesday on the Golden Eagles’ Senior Night.
Guerin Catholic led 3-1 at halftime. Evan Miller, Tommy Hartman and Keegan Perhacs all scored one goal each. The Golden Eagles added three more goals in the second half, with Matthew Wright, Ethan Cabotage and Ethan Thornburg all finding the back of the net.
With the win, Guerin Catholic is 2-0 in the conference and 4-0 overall.
Guerin Catholic’s girls soccer team, ranked No. 9 in 3A, also picked up a Circle City Conference win on Tuesday, beating 2A No. 2 Bishop Chatard 4-0 in its first conference game of the season.
The Golden Eagles got their first goal just before halftime. Quincy McMahon scored on a header, with Hailey Abel making the assist. Second half goals were scored by Emersen Jennings, Katie Koger (with McMahon assisting) and Ava Schlichte.
Guerin Catholic is 2-1 overall.
Carmel’s boys soccer team, ranked No. 7 in 3A, took care of Lawrence North Tuesday in a Metropolitan Conference game.
Senior Medard Mikobi scored all four goals for the visiting Greyhounds. Senior Jackson Carl made two assists, while senior Santiago Vasquez and junior AJ Caito each dished out one assist.
Carmel is 2-0 in MIC play and 4-1-1 overall.
The Carmel girls soccer team, ranked No. 2 in 3A, played Lawrence North at Murray Stadium on Tuesday and won 3-0.
Megan Hamm scored the Greyhounds’ first goal on a direct pass down the middle, with Brooke Bailey making the assist. That would be the lone first-half score. Emma Domke started the second half with a Carmel goal, making a free kick from 25 yards. Domke later assisted Bailey, who scored the Greyhounds’ third goal on a header off a corner kick. Erin Baker made one save.
Carmel is 3-0 in the MIC and 9-0 overall.
