Royals boys soccer wins on last-second goal

The Hamilton Southeastern boys soccer team got a goal with seconds to spare on Saturday night, and that gave the Royals a 1-0 win over Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Franklin Central.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. Class 3A No. 8 Southeastern finally got the goal it needed when Matt Weaver put the ball in the net with a few seconds left.
With the victory, the Royals improved to 2-0 in HCC play and 5-0-1 overall.

Fishers’ boys, ranked No. 11 in 3A, beat McCutcheon 3-0 in a Saturday away game.
Noah Reinhart, Angel Roque Granados and Quinn Manford all scored goals for the Tigers, with Jack Kenny and Reinhart making assists. The victory improved Fishers’ record to 2-2-1.

The Hamilton Heights girls team, ranked No. 13 in 2A, played to a 1-1 tie at Yorktown on Saturday.
The Tigers scored their goal halfway the first half on a 20-yard shot. Ten minutes later, the Huskies got the equalizer: Maria Mitchell played a ball inside the 18 to Jenna Peterson, who sent it into the net.
Heights goalkeeper Jenn Houser “played a fantastic game in goal, coming off her line and making things tough for the Yorktown forwards,” said Huskies coach Travis Kauffman. Jayla Logan, Keri Townsend, Riley Landis and Katie Smith all had solid defensive games.
Heights won the junior varsity game 2-1, with Ella Hickok scoring both goals.
The Huskies are 4-0-2 and play at Northwestern on Tuesday.

Carmel’s girls, ranked No. 2 in 3A, won both of their games at the Carmel Invitational on Saturday.
First, the Greyhounds beat 2A No. 6 Cathedral 3-0. Ava Cabellon scored two goals for Carmel, with Brooke Bailey scoring the other goal. Luci Bair, Lauren Bailey, Brooke Bailey, Cabellon and Susie Soderstrom all made assists. Erin Baker had three goalkeeper saves.
In their second game, the ‘Hounds won over 3A No. 10 Avon 1-0. Soderstrom scored Carmel’s goal in the first half, with Cabellon making the assist. Baker had five saves in getting her sixth straight shutout.
The Greyhounds are 6-0 for the season.
