After several days of schedule changes and wondering if it would even get to play, Hamilton Heights did indeed get to play a Week 1 football game.
The Huskies traveled to Lapel on Friday night to take on the Bulldogs, who won 42-19. Lapel scored the first three touchdowns of the game, starting with one in the first quarter to give it an 8-0 lead at the end of the period.
The Bulldogs added two more TDs, and two more successful two-point conversion attempts to go up 24-0 midway through the second period. Heights got on the board with 3:14 left in the half when Gavin Brammel caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Guy Griffey. Michael Lecher made the extra-point kick.
Lapel added another touchdown with eight seconds to go in the half, giving it a 30-7 lead at the break. The Bulldogs scored twice in the third quarter, taking a 42-7 lead into the fourth period.
The Huskies kept battling, though. Cooper Vondersaar caught two long touchdown passes from Griffey, one for 55 yards and the other for 29 yards.
Griffey finished a solid passing night with 180 yards, completing 10 of 24 attempts. Brammel caught three of those passes. Troy Ehman led the rushing with 41 yards.
Heights will go back on the road next Friday, traveling to North Montgomery for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
