MacGregor Park in Westfield is the recipient of a handmade mural created and donated by the National Charity League (NCL), Crossroads Chapter, Class of 2025.
NCL is a mother/daughter non-profit organization that focuses on community service, leadership and cultural experiences. Each of the girls in the class contributed to the piece of art that is displayed near the shelters at the front of the park.
Melanie Pickett, Grade Level Advisor, said, “The Class of 2025 wanted something fun and colorful to inspire others to come explore nature at MacGregor Park. The smaller details – bird, squirrel, tree and flower – represent beauty we can all typically see both in the nature of MacGregor Park and around our great state of Indiana.”
Each NCL class is given a specific grade level focus, with the Class of 2025 concentrating their philanthropy efforts on the environment and nature.
“The hand painted mural is a way to show that the community is so important to our park and to encourage residents to visit and explore not only this art piece, but all of the incredible aspects of our beautiful passive nature park,” Westfield Washington Township Trustee Danielle Carey Tolan said.
Last year, the NCL Class of 2024 donated a life-size bird’s nest, which is housed in the center of the trail system, and they planted a flower bed near the shelters.
The chapter as a whole also volunteers regularly at the park as trail ambassadors. Westfield Washington Township appreciates the ongoing partnership that has been created with NCL.
