The Westfield and Fishers boys soccer teams opened their seasons by playing to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday.
The Shamrocks scored in the first half with a headed goal from a free kick. The Tigers got the equalizer in the second half from a corner kick by Drew Gavit.
University dropped its opener to Heritage Christian 4-0 in a Monday battle of ranked Class 1A teams.
The No. 6 Trailblazers got off to a strong start, but the No. 5 Eagles scored off a corner kick and never looked back.
Hamilton Heights, ranked No. 11 in 2A, took care of Yorktown 4-0 in their opener on Tuesday.
The Huskies scored six minutes into the game when Josh Thorpe made a cross kick that found Logan Fakes for the score. Zach Clark made the assist for the second goal.
In the second half, Heights scored two more goals. Both were put in the net by Fakes, and both came from assists by Drew Tomaszewski.
“The Huskies played a great game in the very humid weather by possessing the ball and good communication,” said Huskies coach Derrick Dean.
Caleb Grabarz preserved the shutout, making five saves.
“Several players contributed in this good solid victory,” said Dean. “It’s a great start to the season.”
Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 8 in 3A, opened its season Tuesday by beating Pendleton Heights 8-1.
Cale Barnes scored the Royals’ first goal eight minutes into the game with a kick from 45 yards out. Daran Ghaffari and Matt Kuster both scored two goals, with Sean Williams, Kevin LEffers and Roth Susemichel each getting one goal.
Southeastern will next play on Saturday, hosting 3A No. 4 Carmel.
In a freshman game, Carmel beat Westfield 1-0 on Monday. The Greyhounds’ back line held the Shamrocks to three shots on goal.
“Our wonderful defense helped secure the victory,” said Carmel coach Joel Haynie. “We look forward to getting better as the season goes on.”
