George W. Grimes, Sr.

November 22, 1928 – December 18, 2019

George W. Grimes, Sr., 91, Noblesville, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. He was born on November 22, 1928 to George and Clara (Barron) Grimes in Noblesville. He was a 1947 graduate of Noblesville High School.

George worked for Kinzer Marathon gas station and Talbert-Roessler Lumber Company for 15 years, and retired in 1991 after 16 years with Lowe’s. He then retired in May 2013 after 19 years with Hamilton Southeastern Schools transportation, a job he really enjoyed. George was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church since 1979 where he served as Deacon for several years. He was a past president of Babe Ruth Baseball League and loved to play golf. George enjoyed his computer and loved making cards for friends and family.

He is survived by his twin sons, Dennis (Paulette) Grimes and Doug Grimes; son, George (Debbie) Grimes Jr.; daughter, Brenda (Gary) Stafford; eight grandchildren, Brett (Jamie) Hicks, Amy (Scott) Shepherd, Marcus (LeeAnn) Smith, Telly (Andrea) Grimes, Michelle Rice, Alexandra Grimes, Jessica Grimes and Jennifer (Jeff) Frye; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Roudebush and Catherine Dillman; and his beloved dog, Hershey.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Jo Grimes; sisters, Esther Moore and Rosella Powell; his brother, Richard Grimes; and daughter-in-law, Ruth Ellen “Dodie” Grimes.

Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville, with visitation from 3 p.m. to the time of service. Pastor Mark Lowe will officiate. A private family graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
