The Hamilton Heights wrestling team finished 4-1 at the Union City Super 6 tournament on Saturday.
The Huskies beat Anderson 54-21, Union City 54-21, Northeastern 60-21 and Wapahani 78-6 before narrowly losing to Frankton 36-34. Isaiah Rodriguez finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record at 106 pounds, beating Anderson’s Romelo Williams (a sectional champion last year) 7-6. Rodriguez was named the meet’s outstanding wrestler, as voted by the coaches.
Cooper Mansfield went 5-0 at 145 pounds and Luke Stohler was 4-0 at 195 pounds.
Heights had another milestone last week, as Huskies coach Gary Myers got his 100th career victory as the Huskies’ coach. Heights beat Bishop Chatard 68-6 to give Myers his 100th win.
The Huskies are 14-2 and wrestle at Pendleton Heights tonight.
Westfield finished fourth at the Traicoff Duals Saturday at Calumet, one of the toughest dual-meet tournaments in the state.
The Shamrocks beat Culver Academies and Floyd Central in their first two rounds. In the championship bracket, Westfield lost to No. 2-ranked Cathedral, then fell to Franklin Community and Portage in the final two rounds.
Dylan Driver went 5-0 for the ‘Rocks at 113 pounds, while Braxton Vest (106) and Carson Eldred (120) each had 4-1 records.
Westfield hosts Noblesville on Thursday.
Hamilton Southeastern won the Plainfield Invitational on Saturday.
The Royals scored 359 points and placed all 14 of their wrestlers on the podium. Five Southeastern athletes won their weight divisions: Mat Benson (106), Jacob Simone (120), Reece Luhmann (145), Ronan Hiner (170) and Andrew Irick (285).
In addition, three more Royals finished as runners-up: Jake Lemieux (138), Ryan Cast (160) and Max Broom (182). Cam Roberts and Devin Dudley both took third, Nick Burris was fourth, Jacob Schnieder placed fifth and Kyler Sapp was sixth.
On Tuesday, Southeastern beat Noblesville 53-14 in a dual meet. Complete results were not available at press time and will run in a later edition.
