Aspire Indiana and Progress House have announced they are formally affiliating, joining two celebrated nonprofits that together have more than a century of service in helping the state’s most vulnerable Hoosiers.
Progress House, Indiana’s oldest and largest addiction recovery residence, will become part of the Aspire family of “whole health” provider services that include primary medical care, behavioral health, addiction services and community support programs addressing social determinants of health such as housing and employment.

With a century of service between us, Progress House and Aspire Indiana have been models of how not-for-profits can serve individuals in crisis and enhance the community as a whole,” said Barbara Scott, Aspire President and CEO, and Darrell Mitchell, Progress House President and CEO, in a joint statement. “Together, we will become more than the sum of our parts and offer comprehensive services to Hoosiers struggling with addiction.”
The affiliation is the result of months of ongoing collaboration to establish the state’s first Whole Health Recovery Center in Anderson, which is currently under review by city officials. If approved, this center would provide a stable residence for people with substance use disorder (SUD) while bringing all of the available services of Progress House and Aspire to their doorstep in a facility that is certified as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), an Indiana Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) and Indiana Recovery Residence through the Indiana Affiliation of Recovery Residences (INARR).
As the planning stages proceeded, leadership of Aspire and Progress House recognized a synergy of shared values and mission in serving as part of the community social safety net. This culminated in unanimous votes by the respective organizations’ boards of directors to approve Progress House as a subsidiary of Aspire Indiana.
Progress House retains the distinct identity it has built since being established in 1961 and will continue to operate under that name within the Aspire umbrella. No changes in leadership or staffing are expected.
Progress House’s existing recovery residence facilities, all located on the Eastside of Indianapolis, will continue to operate as before. Additionally, Aspire and Progress House are exploring establishing other residential recovery centers in Central Indiana.
