The Horseshoe Prairie Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring the annual American History Essay Contest for grades 5 through 8, and the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest for grades 9 through 12. All students in Hamilton County including public, private, parochial and homeschool students are eligible to participate.
The title of the 2019-20 American History Essay Contest is “The Voyage of the Mayflower” as this year is the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower and the founding of the Plymouth Colony. The title of the 2019-20 Christopher Columbus Essay Contest is “A Sailor’s Experiences as Part of Christopher Columbus’ First Expedition to the Americas.”
There are specific instructions and deadlines for each essay contest. Winners at the Chapter level will be eligible for entry into the State level and ultimately for the National level in Washington, D.C.
