Members of the Northern Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce will host the Thursday, Aug. 8 meeting at the Duke Energy Power Station. The luncheon and tour will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 21225 Riverwood Avenue, Noblesville.
The program and tour will center on the history and operation of the plant. Built in 1950, Noblesville Station, located along the bank of the White River, was originally a coal-fired plant with two steam turbines that generated approximately 90 megawatts of electricity. In 2003, the coal-burning portion of the station was decommissioned, and three new combustion turbines were installed that run on natural gas. To increase efficiency, the turbines were joined to a heat recovery steam generator, which captures and converts combustion turbine exhaust heat to energy. The modernized facility now generates approximately 300 megawatts of electricity.
Take advantage of this monthly networking opportunity. Cost for members is $15 and $18 for non-members. Register to attend by this Friday, Aug. 2. Seating is limited to 25. Attendees will go through security check at the gate then drive to the parking lot east of the large brick building. Attendees will then walk a short distance to the maintenance/conference building west of the cooling tower.
