Carmel tennis wins record 16th semi-state title

The Carmel girls tennis team made even more history Saturday by claiming the Culver Academies semi-state championship.
The No. 3-ranked and defending state champion Greyhounds beat No. 12 Penn 5-0. With the victory, Carmel won its 16th semi-state title, setting an all-time record for most semi-states won. The ‘Hounds had been tied with Homestead and North Central with 15 each, so Carmel now has the record all to itself. The Greyhounds also extended their record of consecutive semi-state to 11; Carmel has won every year since 2009.
The Greyhounds now advance to the state finals. Carmel will host No. 8 Columbus North in a Friday quarter-final match, which begins at 3 p.m. Quarter-final winners advance to the semi-finals, which take place next Saturday at North Central’s Barbara Wynne Tennis Center.
