Maurice Dent, 82, Westfield, passed away surrounded by his family. Maurice was born on June 7, 1934 to the late Nathaniel and Susan Jane (Hawkins) Dent in Petersburg, Ind.
Maurice honorably served his country enlisting in the United States Army. Maurice was stationed in Germany as a Military Police Officer. While serving in Germany, he met his wife Helma Karoline Dent who preceded Maurice in death. They had 59 wonderful years together.
Maurice also met Elvis Presley in Germany while both were serving in the Army at the time.
Maurice retired from Hewlett Packard. Maurice would spend his time cooking with his wife Helma. They would also take long rides together finding new places. Maurice loved to fish and tell stories to all about his fishing trips. He enjoyed playing golf, riding bikes, woodworking and feeding the ducks while he was fishing or stopping somewhere with his wife on one of their drives.
His greatest accomplishment was his family who will miss him, his children, Sue (Drew) Reynolds of Sheridan, Maryann (Steve) Studley of Colorado Springs, Col., Carl Dent of Pendleton, Ind. and Doris (Marc) Rothwell of Ukiah, Calif. Maurice was a proud grandfather, great grandfather and uncle to many. Maurice’s siblings preceded him in death.
A celebration of Maurice’s life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017, where family and friends are invited to gather at Sue and Drew’s home, located at 21775 Lamong Road, Sheridan, IN, 46069.
