O’Malia’s Supermarket at 126th Street and Gray Road will close in June if a buyer is not found for it and other Marsh-owned groceries.
O’Malia’s which once had a half-dozen stores in Hamilton County, was purchased by the Marsh chain several years ago but has continued to retain the O’Malia name.
June 7 is the due date for bids on all Marsh stores. Thus far there have been no reports of potential buyers waiting to bid. Marsh once had stores in Noblesville, Westfield and Carmel besides the O’Malia location on the eastside of Carmel.
Founded by Joe O’Malia in the early 1960s, his first store was located in the Home Place community. Others opened in Noblesville and Carmel in the 1970s. But, between 2000 and 2012 all but the Gray Road location were closed.
The popular grocery stores were locally owned and operated by the O’Malia family of Carmel until purchased by Marsh. Questions arose in recent months as to whether the last of the O’Malia stores in Indianapolis and Carmel would go out with the Marsh chain, and there is apparently no doubt they will go the way of all Marsh operations.
