The County Line
I can’t help but notice that the Indianapolis news media is desperately trying to increase viewership and readership by trying to run more stories about Hamilton County.
There is a reason for that. Both the print media and television stations realize their potential market is increasing in this county while in Marion County not so much, and probably decreasing in newspaper sales. The media executives know that their future lies in Hamilton County with our huge and growing population of 325,000.
These folks don’t pay nearly as much attention to Hancock County or Boone County because their populations, while growing, are only a fraction of ours.
So, the metropolitan media presents stories of Hamilton County fatal auto crashes and robberies along with some puff pieces or features, the ideas for which they sometimes get from this newspaper.
This brings us to the question of why read the Reporter? As a reader of the Reporter you know why, and you can help others learn why. In this newspaper the reader gets the daily stream of local news.
The Reporter specializes in local sports, important government and political news, full obituaries, important legal notices and local advertising along with other coverage.
In a sense, I am preaching to the choir here. But, have you ever noticed friends or neighbors saying “I didn’t know that” when you mention something you have read in the Reporter? I get that often. My answer, of course, is “Well, you should read the Reporter.”
You might want to tell them the same thing.
