Virginia Maude (Goff) Paddack

August 14, 1935 – November 17, 2018

Virginia Maude (Goff) Paddack, 83, Benton, Ky., and formerly of both Byrdstown, Tenn., and Sheridan, passed away on Saturday morning, November 17, 2018 in Calvert City, Ky. Born August 14, 1935 in Boxley, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Vernon and Donna (Burtron) Goff-Lee.

She attended Sheridan High School and would go on to become a licensed cosmetologist. For over 20 years, Virginia owned and operated her own beauty shop out of her home in Big Springs. She and her late husband Kermit attended the Big Springs Community Church and she was a member of the K.V. Elliott Sheridan Legion Auxiliary.

Virginia was a very humble person, never wanting to be a bother or a burden to anyone else. In addition to her responsibilities with her clients, she helped her husband Kermit with the family farm in Big Springs for many years. She had quite a soft spot in her heart for animals. She loved taking care of the family’s dairy herd, milking by hand for countless years before Kermit “moved her up in the world,” converting their operation over to electric milkers. If Virginia wasn’t at the shop or out in the barn, you could usually find her over on the softball diamond with the Big Springs women’s softball league. She loved traveling the state to play ball every chance she had. When things slowed down enough that she could catch her breath, she loved to do a little bit of fishin’ and spend some time in the kitchen making a batch of her legendary candy. She also never missed a chance to spend some quality time with her family. Her grandkids were her pride and joy. They could do no wrong.

She is survived by her three sons, Clement J “CJ” Paddack (Barbara Jean), Benton, Ky., Brian Gene Paddack (Brenda), Big Springs, and Dale Dean Paddack (Penny), Byrdstown, Tenn.; one daughter, Alese Lynn Ufkes, Big Springs; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; one step-brother, Gary Rock (Brenda), Greenfield; and two sisters-in-law, Lora Goff, Sheridan, and Luella Goff, Sumpter, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Olean Randall; two brothers, Rollie V. Goff and William K. Goff; and by the love of her life, Kermit Eugene Paddack on April 27, 2011. She and Kermit were married on July 22, 1950. Virginia was also preceded in death by her canine BFF with a lion haircut, her red chow Muggins. That dog got away with more than the kids and grandkids ever thought about. When it was time to hit the road on any kind of trip, Muggins had his own seat in the vehicle. That special seat nearly roasted him alive on the first outing in the new family van. Nobody realized that the van had heated seats, let alone that his seat was set to high.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Kercheval Funeral Home in Sheridan.

Memorial contributions may be presented to the Alzheimer’s Association.
