Dorothy Marie Hammack, 90, Sheridan, passed away on Saturday morning, November 17, 2018 at Majestic Care of Sheridan. Born February 27, 1928 in Clinton County, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Nellie (Rawlings) Irick.
Dorothy graduated from Sheridan High School with the Class of 1946 and worked in the Finance Department at Fort Benjamin Harrison for over 30 years, retiring in 1988. She loved keeping her mind active, and her love of reading and crossword puzzles helped do just that.
She was a member of the Sheridan Wesleyan Church.
Dorothy’s family was very important to her. She is survived by her loving husband, Jay Warren Hammack. She and Jay were married in 1947. Also surviving are her three sons, Jeff Hammack, Indianapolis, Roger Hammack, Sheridan, and Chris Hammack, Indianapolis; her daughter, Becky Aldred (Mike), Sheridan; four grandchildren, Andrew Aldred (Amy), Angola, Ind., Diana Aldred Griffin (Matthew), Westfield, Heather Hammack, Indianapolis, and Ryne Hammack, Indianapolis; two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Quinn Aldred, both of Angola; and her sister, Margaret Edrington, Lapel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Hubert “Mike” Irick and Charles “Chuck” Irick; and three sisters, Catherine (Irick) Timberman Hayes, Pearl (Irick) Bragg and Mary (Irick) Biddle.
No services are being planned at this time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kercheval Funeral Home in Sheridan.
