Deadline nearing for DAR essay contest entries

The deadline for essay entries in the Horseshoe Prairie Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, is Monday, Nov. 12.

Essays will be judged by an independent panel of judges with the winning essays in each category forwarded to the State competition, with those winning essays judged in the national competition in Washington, D.C.

The essay categories are the American History Essay competition for grades 5-8 and the Christopher Columbus Essay competition for grades 9-12. This year’s essay topic for grades 5-8 is the Women’s Suffrage Campaign, and the topic for grades 9-12 is Comparing Ship Technology: The Ships Columbus Used Versus the Ships of Today.
