Worrell will not seek reelection

Carmel City Councilman reflects on his public service

Carmel City Councilor Jeff Worrell announced that he will not seek reelection in 2027, concluding more than a decade of service on the Council and 35 years of community involvement.

Worrell will continue serving through the remainder of his current term, which concludes in December 2027.

Worrell, who began serving on the Council in January 2016 and is currently its most senior council member, emphasized that while his time in elected office will come to an end, his commitment to the Carmel community will continue.

“Serving on the Carmel City Council has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Worrell said. “For the past decade, residents have entrusted me with the responsibility of representing them and helping shape the future of our city. That opportunity has been profoundly meaningful. I’ve always believed public service is about stewardship, not permanence, and the time has come to make room for the next generation of leadership.”

Throughout his time on the Council, Worrell has emphasized the importance of civility, respectful dialogue and maintaining relationships despite differences of opinion.

That commitment was shaped in part by an experience following his first City Council primary election in 2015. His opponent, former Councilor Luci Snyder, congratulated him following the election and extended her friendship and guidance. Snyder has remained a trusted confidant throughout his time in office.

Worrell intends to remain actively involved in the community, continuing his efforts to encourage civility, strengthen relationships and support initiatives that contribute to Carmel’s future. He continues to serve as the Founder, President, and CEO of Project Civility and as a board member for O’Connor House in Carmel.
