Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation’s (CCPR) Extended School Enrichment (ESE) program will join communities across the country in celebrating Lights on Afterschool on Thursday, Oct. 22. The annual event recognizes the positive impact of afterschool programming and advocates for continued support of these essential services.

Lights on Afterschool was created by the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization that works to expand access to affordable, quality afterschool programs for children nationwide. The event raises awareness to the important role afterschool programs play in supporting students’ development, encouraging lifelong learning, and providing working families with reliable care.

To celebrate the occasion, all 11 ESE sites will hold their own themed festivities, including Halloween costume parties, carnivals, glow parties, and more.

“Afterschool programs are about so much more than providing a place for students to go when the school day ends,” ESE Director Jennifer Brown said. “Through ESE, students have opportunities to discover new interests, develop friendships and build confidence in a safe, supportive environment.”

ESE is celebrating its 20th year of partnership with Carmel Clay Schools, providing quality afterschool care to families at 11 elementary schools across Carmel. Each day, students explore a variety of clubs and activities, ranging from STEM and art to sports and other hands-on activities that encourage creativity, teamwork, and exploration.
