Westfield Assistant Chief of Police Billy J. Adams has graduated as a member of the 299th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place on Sept. 17 at the National Academy in Quantico, Va.
Assistant Chief Adams is the eighth officer in the Westfield Police Department’s history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.
Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
The 299th session consisted of 265 law enforcement officers: men and women from 44 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 28 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.
“Assistant Chief Adams has successfully graduated from a program that fewer than 1 percent of all law enforcement in the U.S. are able to complete,” Westfield Police Chief Shawn Keen said. “I am extremely proud of his accomplishment and look forward to his return to our department.”
Assistant Chief Adams has nearly 28 years of law enforcement experience, with 19 of those serving the city of Westfield. He has held positions of patrolman, patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant, administrative lieutenant, Captain of Support Services, and currently as the Assistant Chief of Administration.
