Dear Editor:
I am writing to express my support for Robyn Cook for Jackson Township Trustee.
I believe one of the most important qualities in a township trustee is a willingness to do the work – not just during regular business hours, but whenever necessary to understand the issues facing our community and ensure that Jackson Township has a voice.
Robyn has demonstrated that commitment time and time again.
One accomplishment that stands out to me is her leadership in getting a new Jackson Township fire station built. Our previous station was approximately 50 years old and significantly outdated for the needs of a growing community. Robyn recognized that our firefighters and residents needed a modern facility capable of serving Jackson Township today and into the future, and she put in the time and effort necessary to help make that happen. The township’s own materials identify the new fire station as a major investment in public safety and the future growth of Jackson Township.
I also appreciate that Robyn understands the township does not operate in a vacuum. Decisions made by the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Cicero Town Board, county government and other local entities can directly affect Jackson Township residents.
Robyn makes the effort to attend these meetings, understand what is being discussed, and stay involved in decisions that affect our community. She understands how these different boards and committees work together and, importantly, makes sure that Jackson Township’s interests are part of the conversation.
That kind of involvement requires a tremendous amount of time. Many of these meetings take place after normal working hours, yet Robyn continues to show up, listen, ask questions, and stay engaged. Her service is not limited to simply attending meetings required by her position. She goes beyond that because she wants to understand what is happening in our community and how those decisions may affect the people who live here.
A recent example is the new water tower at Bakers Corner. Rather than simply accepting information at face value, Robyn reached out to county commissioners to ask questions and seek clarification about how the project could affect Jackson Township residents. To me, that demonstrates exactly what we should expect from a township trustee: someone willing to ask questions, gather information, and make sure our residents’ interests are being considered.
Jackson Township is growing and changing. With that growth come complicated decisions involving development, infrastructure, public safety, utilities, and the future of our communities. I believe having a trustee who understands how all of these pieces fit together is extremely important.
Robyn Cook has demonstrated that she is willing to put in the countless hours necessary to serve this community. She attends meetings, communicates with other government officials, asks questions, seeks information, and works to understand the issues before making decisions.
For me, supporting Robyn Cook is about supporting someone who has demonstrated through her actions that she is committed to Jackson Township and willing to put in the work to serve it.
I am proud to endorse Robyn Cook for Jackson Township Trustee, and I hope other Jackson Township residents will take the time to look at her record of service and involvement in our community.
