Zachary DePue will help kick off Carmel Symphony Orchestra’s 50th Anniversary season

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) announces that Zachary DePue will be guest concertmaster for the first performance of its 50th Anniversary season.

DePue was invited by Music Director David Commanday, who said, “Zach and I have collaborated many times, and every time has been amazing. He is a brilliant violinist, and combines virtuosity, musicality, spontaneity, sharp wit, and boundless good humor. Zach will be the perfect Leader to help open our season!”

The concert, HORIZONS: The Promise of a Vast Land, will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Payne & Mencias Palladium at Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts. The performance will be presented by Pedcor Companies. The repertoire includes Aaron Copland – “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Ferde Grofé – “Grand Canyon Suite,” and Antonin Dvořák’s “Cello Concerto.”

Maestro David Commanday will conduct, and guest cellist Alexander Hersh will be featured soloist in Dvořák’s “Cello Concerto.”

With his virtuosic high-energy performances, DePue has established himself as a leader, soloist, collaborator, and improvisational artist, reaching across a diverse landscape of music. His authentic warmth and generosity on the stage invites audiences to join him in all his explorations. DePue is the concertmaster of the Naples Philharmonic and Colorado MahlerFest and first violinist of The Indianapolis Quartet.

DePue has been concertmaster of the Naples Philharmonic in Florida since 2023. In 2007, he became one of the youngest concertmasters in the country when, at age 27, he was appointed to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. For more than a decade, he served the orchestra as a passionate and dedicated leader both in and outside the concert hall. As a founding member of the category-defying Time for Three, he spent 15 years making numerous tours and high-profile appearances, including a performance on the 2014 semifinals round of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

DePue is the youngest of four brothers, all violinists, who make up The DePue Brothers Band, an eclectic ensemble that blends bluegrass and classical music with elements of jazz, blues, and rock. He graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, where he served as concertmaster of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and studied with renowned violinists Ida Kavafian and Jaime Laredo. He is a former member of the Philadelphia Orchestra, where he performed in the first violin section for five years. He performs on a violin made by Giuseppe Rocca of Turin, Italy, in 1846.
