Finkam appointed as Vice Chair of the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger

Effective January 2027, Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam will begin serving as the Vice Chair of the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger. She will serve alongside Mayor Alyia Gaskins of Alexandria, Va., who was appointed Chair.

This nonpartisan collective of civic leaders works together to make meaningful steps to end childhood hunger nationwide. The cohort initiative began in 2022, and Mayor Finkam has served as a member since becoming mayor in 2024.

“No child should ever have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, yet too many families in our communities face this reality every day,” Finkam said. “I am honored to partner with Mayor Gaskins in leading the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger. By bringing mayors together to share innovative programs, expand meal access and leverage local resources, we can ensure every child has the nutrition they need to learn, grow and thrive.”

The Mayors Alliance works to partner member mayors with local stakeholders to find community-based solutions and expand access to essential food programs, ensuring that all children have reliable nutrition through efforts such as afterschool and summer meal programs.

Mayor Finkam will serve as Vice Chair throughout the duration of 2027.
