County celebrates completion of 146th Street & Allisonville Road interchange

Commissioners award contract for 146th Street & Hazel Dell Parkway interchange

Hamilton County officials gathered Monday morning, Sept. 14, to cut the ribbon on the new 146th Street and Allisonville Road interchange, marking the official completion of one of the county’s largest recent infrastructure projects.

The interchange has been open to traffic for several months, but crews spent the summer completing finishing touches like paving and landscaping. The project replaced the former signalized intersection with a grade-separated interchange featuring a roundabout on Allisonville Road beneath 146th Street.

“This intersection looks and functions completely differently than it did just a few years ago,” said Christine Altman, President of the Hamilton County Commissioners. “We appreciate everyone who endured the construction to get us here. This is an investment that will serve our residents and businesses for decades to come.”

Hamilton County is already preparing to begin its next grade-separated interchange at 146th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway. The Hamilton County Commissioners awarded the $39.9 million contract to Carmel-based Gradex at Monday’s meeting. Work will begin this fall and continue into 2029. Like Allisonville Road, the project is designed to improve safety, traffic flow, and the overall level of service along the busy 146th Street corridor.

“The Allisonville Road interchange gives people a good idea of what we’re working toward at Hazel Dell,” Hamilton County Highway Director Brad Davis said. “These are major projects, but they allow us to address congestion in a way that will serve this corridor for decades.”
