Historic 1856 Northern Hamilton County church celebrating 170 years

Arcadia Brethren Church, one of the earliest and longest-running congregations in Northern Hamilton County, invites the public to a monumental double-celebration at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.

The community is invited to mark the church’s 170th anniversary with a special Homecoming Service themed “Worship Songs Through the Decades.”

The anniversary service, concert, and potluck will take place at the historic church property located at 8989 E. 266th St., Arcadia.

First organized on the Indiana frontier in 1856 with just 50 members meeting in local homes and barns, Arcadia Brethren Church has stood as a beacon of faith, resilience, and community across three different centuries. This year’s Homecoming serves as a formal celebration of those 170 years of continuous ministry.

To honor this journey, the service will feature a nostalgic musical presentation tracing the evolution of faith filled music and popular worship songs from the 1950s to the modern day. The service will highlight how the sounds of worship have changed over the decades while the church’s foundational message of faith in Jesus and caring for one another has remained unchanged.

Following the conclusion of the musical service, the church will host a traditional community potluck. Neighbors, area families, returning members, and first-time guests are all warmly invited to share a meal and enjoy a time of fellowship.

“Reaching 170 years of active ministry is a testament to the generations of families who have poured their hearts into their community,” Pastor Ben Poole said. “As we look back at our deep roots, celebrating with the spiritual songs that shaped our parents, grandparents, and youth feels like the perfect way to step into our next chapter.”

The celebration is entirely free and open to everyone. The dress code is casual, and all are welcome to attend this historic milestone.
