What began in 2021 as a way to share information, highlights, and stories about Hamilton Southeastern (HSE) Schools has grown into a network of informed and involved community members.
Hundreds of people have applied since the program began, and HSE Schools is ready to welcome 42 participants to the 2026-27 cohort. The group includes parents, alumni, and community members who will spend the next several months gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the district.
The impact of HSEngaged extends beyond its monthly meetings. Past participants have become substitute teachers, joined the Hamilton Southeastern Education Foundation (HSEF) Board of Directors, and volunteered throughout the district. They have also supported community education efforts related to district referendum proposals and contributed to events such as HSEF’s Legacy Celebration and HSE Schools’ Before the Bell.
“My job is to tell the stories of HSE Schools, but HSEngaged reminds me that those stories carry further when community members experience them firsthand,” said Emily Pace Abbotts, director of school and community relations. “It is rewarding to see participants leave the program better informed, more connected and ready to contribute in ways that are meaningful to them.”
Selected through an application process, participants will meet monthly from August through April at schools across the district. Sessions will explore academic programs, student services, finance, operations, and facilities management.
