Westfield Washington Township announces remodel of Fire Station 382

Westfield Washington Township has announced plans to remodel Westfield Fire Station 382.

The Township has an interlocal agreement with the City of Westfield to provide fire and emergency services to residents in unincorporated areas. The agreement allows both entities to share resources, jointly fund projects, and coordinate services in support of a common public goal. The township owns the Station 382 building, while the city manages its personnel and daily operations.

“This project is a strong example of how the city and township work together to serve the entire Westfield Washington Township community,” Mayor Scott Willis said. “By investing in Station 82, we are creating a safer, more efficient facility for our firefighters while ensuring they have the space and resources needed to continue providing excellent emergency services.”

The remodeling project will enhance Station 382 and address several necessary facility improvements. Upgrades will focus on strengthening safety standards and on-site training capabilities, enhancing operational efficiency, improving living and working conditions, increasing energy efficiency and sustainability, and strengthening the station’s resilience during emergencies.

The remodel will also include upgraded decontamination zones that meet current safety standards and help reduce firefighters’ exposure to cancer-causing contaminants.

“To ensure residents continue to have access to quality fire and emergency services, the township has a responsibility to maintain a facility that meets the needs of our firefighters and community for years to come,” Township Trustee Jamie Goetz Mills said. “This remodel is a thoughtful investment of public resources, made possible through coordination among city, township and county partners. We are grateful for the shared commitment that has helped move this important project forward.”

Through a partnership with Hamilton County Parks and Recreation, Station 382 firefighters will be temporarily housed in modular living pods on the grounds of Cool Creek Park during construction. The temporary location will remain in use through summer 2027. One operational fire truck will remain on-site, and firefighters will continue to have access to the equipment needed to respond to emergency calls.

Medic 382 has been temporarily relocated to Station 383. Although the ambulance’s home station has changed, emergency medical services will remain uninterrupted.

“Our priority throughout this project is to maintain the same reliable emergency response our residents expect,” Westfield Fire Chief Rob Gaylor said. “The temporary relocation plan allows our crews to remain close to the area they serve, while the completed remodel will provide a safer and more functional station that better supports firefighter health, training, and day-to-day operations.”

The Station 382 remodel represents a continued investment in the safety of Westfield’s firefighters and the residents they serve. To complete the project in a cost-effective, collaborative manner, the township has partnered with the city, Hamilton County Parks and Recreation, the Hamilton County Commissioners, and the Hamilton County Council. Hagerman Group will manage the construction.

Together, these local and county partners are combining resources to support the long-term needs of the fire station and the community it serves.
