Westfield Washington Schools opens new Transportation Center

Westfield Washington Schools (WWS) officially celebrated the opening of its new Transportation Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 4, marking a necessary upgrade in the district’s ability to safely and efficiently serve a growing number of students and families in the Westfield community.

Located at 17900 Towne Road (adjacent to Westfield Middle School West – opening in the 2027-2028 school year), the new Transportation Center provides the district’s transportation team with a modern facility designed to support daily operations, driver training, and the continued growth of one of the district’s most essential services.

“This Transportation Center represents an important investment in the future of Westfield Washington Schools,” said Rebecca Ogle, president of the WWS Board of School Trustees. “It marks a new chapter for our transportation operations as the team can take advantage of a space built specifically to support their important mission of transporting students safely and efficiently.”

Hundreds of daily bus routes connect students to classrooms, extracurricular activities, and educational opportunities across the district. The new facility replaces an aging transportation center that no longer met the operational needs with the amount of families WWS now serves.

For Director of Transportation Michael Reinhardt, the new facility is an environment that allows the transportation team to better serve students and families.

“This facility provides our team with the room and resources to continue improving the work we do every day,” Reinhardt said. “It’s a place where we can collaborate, provide ongoing training and professional development for our drivers and staff, and continue refining the systems and processes that help us safely and efficiently serve our growing district.”

The Transportation Center also supports the district’s commitment to attracting and supporting high-quality transportation professionals by providing dedicated space for training, meetings, and day-to-day operations.

Superintendent Dr. John Atha said the investment reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to ensure students have safe, reliable transportation each day.

“Every school day and many extracurriculars begin and end with transportation,” Atha said. “This facility gives our team the space and resources needed to safely and efficiently serve our growing community while supporting collaboration, training, and professional development for years to come.”

During the ceremony, district leaders recognized the Board of School Trustees, transportation staff, project partners Meyer Najem and Schmidt Associates, and the many individuals whose collaboration helped bring the project to completion. Speakers also thanked the transportation team for the dedication, professionalism, and care they demonstrate each day in serving WWS students and families.
