Perkinsville Public Access Site to close for planned improvements

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Perkinsville Public Access Site will temporarily close beginning Monday, July 27, as construction begins on improvements to the river access site.

These improvements are part of the Madison County Parks and Recreation Department’s initiative to enhance the community’s access to the White River.

Located along the White River off County Road 280 North near Perkinsville, the public access site will be closed to vehicles, boaters, anglers, and other visitors throughout the construction period. The closure is necessary to provide a safe work environment for construction crews and the public.

Planned improvements include widening the entrance drive and parking area, enhancing and stabilizing river access, and completing related site grading and restoration work. The project is intended to create a safer, more durable, and more accessible public access point along the White River.

“We understand that the Perkinsville site is an important access point for boaters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts,” said Ben Orcutt, Madison County Parks and Recreation Board President. “This temporary closure will allow crews to complete the work safely and quickly while making improvements that will benefit visitors to this site for years to come.”

Visitors are asked not to enter the construction area or attempt to access the river through the site while the closure is in effect. The site is expected to reopen, weather and construction conditions permitting, mid to late September. The improvements are being completed in coordination with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. They are part of Madison County Parks and Recreation’s ongoing efforts to expand access to parks, natural areas, and greater connectivity.
